＜La Roca＞
Introducing another addition to our popular Dip Style Coffee series: a coffee from Jorge of La Roca, one of Philocoffea's popular Colombian producers.
Planadas, located in Colombia's Tolima region, was heavily affected by guerrilla activity until the early 2000s and has long faced challenging economic conditions. Reaching the farms is no easy task either, often requiring more than four hours of travel on unpaved roads and crossings over small streams.
However, once you arrive at the farms, the remarkable potential of this region quickly becomes apparent.
The coffee we are introducing this time is a Geisha variety produced by Jorge, who manages his own farm, La Roca, in Planadas while also processing coffee for neighboring producers. Through his expertise in processing, he brings out the full potential and distinctive character of the Geisha variety.
Jorge comes from a family that has been farming coffee in Planadas for three generations. Around four to five years ago, he began focusing on the production of specialty-grade coffee.
His dedication has already produced remarkable results. In his first entry to the Cup of Excellence (COE) in 2022, he placed third, followed by another impressive result in 2023, when he placed 24th.
These achievements have only strengthened his passion for coffee production.
His son has also inherited that passion. Competing in a kids' Cup Tasters competition, he placed second—making the future of this next-generation coffee-producing family something to look forward to.
Only a very small quantity of green coffee was available for us to purchase this time. Wanting to share this special coffee with as many people as possible, we decided to offer it in our convenient Dip Style Coffee format.
As soon as you open the package and take out the coffee bag, a sweet and refreshing aroma reminiscent of orange gently fills the air.
All you need to do is pour in hot water and wait a few minutes.
It is an easy way to enjoy the elegant aroma and delicate flavors that make Geisha coffee so special.
When enjoyed hot, the cup offers an elegant citrus character reminiscent of bergamot, accompanied by the sweet-tart fruitiness of cherry.
An Earl Grey-like, tea-like aroma lingers in the aftertaste, creating a refined and elegant impression.
And this is where I personally enjoy it the most—when the coffee begins to cool.
As the temperature drops, the refreshing character of bergamot gradually shifts toward the sweeter citrus notes of mandarin orange.
Then, sweet stone-fruit nuances reminiscent of apricot and peach begin to emerge, spreading across the palate with a smooth, silky texture.
Even after swallowing, the floral aroma continues to linger, creating a sense of pure enjoyment that makes you want to take another sip.
We hope you will take a little time to enjoy how the coffee changes as it cools and discover its different expressions at each temperature.
