"La Esperanza"

Tolima is nestled in the valley between the Eastern and Central mountain ranges, where the capital city, Bogotá, is also located. The region benefits from abundant natural water flowing down from three snow-capped volcanoes, and its fertile volcanic soil produces coffees with a gentle sweetness and a robust body.

Eduard comes from a family of coffee producers spanning four generations. He began cultivating his first coffee plot at the young age of 15. Today, he runs two coffee farms—La Esperanza and Las Delicias—located in southern Tolima's Planadas region, alongside his wife. On their 16-hectare estate, they grow a wide variety of coffee plants and have invested significantly in their farm’s facilities.

From carefully selecting coffee varieties to refining fermentation processes, Eduard is committed to producing high-quality coffee. His dedication has earned him recognition, including being named a finalist in the 2018 Cup of Excellence. In 2023, he participated in a study tour and technical training in Brazil to further improve the quality of his coffee.

The farm’s exceptional coffee reflects the harmony between Tolima’s rich natural environment and Eduard’s passion for exploration and innovation.

I initially roasted the beans in about 9 minutes, but the result felt somewhat flat. Since the green beans had good moisture content and density, I decided to go for a shorter roast, finishing in about 8 minutes and 30 seconds for a light roast. The result was a cup that clearly brought out citrus and floral notes. This is an affordable Geisha variety, but it offers a delightful jasmine-like floral aroma. It’s a great choice for anyone curious about Geisha but hasn’t had the chance to try it yet.

As you grind the beans, you’ll notice a burst of vibrant floral fragrance. When you take a sip, you’ll enjoy the refreshing acidity and sweetness reminiscent of lemon candy. It has an elegant flavor that feels calming and refined. Despite being lightly roasted, the coffee has a well-defined body and a smooth, silky texture. When freshly brewed, citrus and tea-like impressions stand out, but as it cools, you’ll start to sense a soft, stone-fruit sweetness emerging.

We recommend drinking it starting around 13 days after the roast date. It’s the kind of coffee that can turn an ordinary day at home into something a little more special. Take your time to enjoy its refined and carefully crafted flavors, right down to the very last sip.
