Thank you for visiting Philocoffea.

We’re delighted to introduce a special Brazilian coffee.

<Eldorado>

Located in Ibiraci, in the Alta Mogiana region of Minas Gerais, Brazil, El Dorado Farm is one of seven estates operated by the Faleiros family, who have been cultivating coffee for over a century.

The estate covers 1,100 hectares and is home to more than 5.5 million coffee trees, growing 13 different Arabica varieties.

Now led by the third generation, Jean Vilhena Faleiros, the farm places quality and innovation at the heart of its production. He has introduced unique techniques in coffee processing and fermentation, earning numerous awards both in Brazil and abroad, including recognition as a Cup of Excellence finalist.

Blessed with fertile soil and ideal climate conditions, the coffees from El Dorado express both tradition and innovation, continuously offering cups that evoke a sense of wonder and emotion.

I first encountered coffee from El Dorado Farm at a cupping event last year.

At that event, all the coffees were presented blind, and instead of names, each sample was labeled with a song title. By scanning the QR code shown with each cup, participants could listen to the song while tasting the coffee — a truly exciting and memorable experience.

This creative idea was born when Jean Faleiros and Marcos Kim visited London and saw a product that used a Spotify QR code. Inspired by that, they came up with the concept of pairing each coffee lot with a piece of music.

Each lot has music chosen to match its character:

  • Natural process lots are categorized as “MPB” (Música Popular Brasileira) — representing the individuality and depth of the terroir.
  • “ROCK” lots express boldness and complexity, just like rock music.
  • “BLUES” lots use rare varieties, offering depth and emotion.
  • “JAZZ” represents washed-process coffees, refined and sophisticated like the genre itself.

During the cupping, tasting the coffee while listening to its music allowed us to enjoy it not just through taste, but also through sound — a truly unique, multi-sensory experience.

“ALMA”

The lot we’re featuring this time is called “ALMA.”

It’s a natural-process coffee, belonging to the “MPB” category. “MPB,” short for Música Popular Brasileira (Brazilian Popular Music), is one of Brazil’s iconic music genres.

The song “ALMA” is by Brazilian singer-songwriter Zélia Duncan. The word “Alma” in Portuguese means “soul” or “spirit.” Her voice carries both gentleness and strength, accompanied by a refreshing melody. The repeated use of the word “Alma” in the lyrics feels like a deep, resonant call — calm yet powerful.

For this lot, we’ve chosen a soft dark roast.

It has the pleasant bitterness typical of dark roasts, along with the gentle sweetness characteristic of Brazilian coffees — reminiscent of almond chocolate and cashew nuts. As it cools, notes of baked apple and raisin-like sweetness emerge, adding a touch of bright, ripe fruit flavor. The texture is smooth and weighty, offering a comforting softness that soothes fatigue.

It’s not a flashy coffee, but one that quietly accompanies your daily moments.

We invite you to enjoy it while listening to Zélia Duncan’s “ALMA.”

A warm, dark-roasted Brazilian coffee that stays close during moments of pause and reflection.

Put on your favorite music, pour a cup, and let yourself relax into a gentle, unhurried time.
