“Finca La Estrella“

Located in the Panoya area of Taminango, Nariño in southern Colombia, at an elevation of 1,850 meters, Finca La Estrella is where producer Juan Sanchez crafts coffee by blending generations of inherited agricultural knowledge with modern processing techniques.

This region’s cool climate and volcanic soil, combined with a significant day–night temperature difference, allow coffee cherries to mature slowly, developing vibrant acidity and natural sweetness. Around Taminango, many producers respect traditional farming methods while actively embracing innovative processing approaches to further elevate quality.

This Geisha lot is a result of a washed process with 14 hours of aerobic fermentation, designed to highlight the variety’s inherent clarity and complexity. The cup showcases elegant floral aromas, bright citrus acidity, and a refined sweetness that lingers gracefully on the finish—an expression that is both polished and sophisticated.

When haiz coffee (Japan-based importer) purchased this lot between June and July 2025, the Nariño region as a whole was facing a period of instability. Due to rising security concerns ahead of upcoming elections, a curfew was imposed from 5:00 p.m. to 5:00 a.m., restricting even local residents. Producers advised against visiting for safety reasons, making farm visits impossible at the time.

These circumstances remind us that the value of this coffee extends beyond flavor alone—it represents the dedication and resilience of producers who continue their work despite challenging conditions. The inability to visit the farm firsthand, paired with deep respect for Juan Sanchez and the local community’s commitment to quality, has made this lot especially meaningful.

Following the immediate sell-out success of 296 Colombia La Roca Geisha, this Colombia Finca La Estrella Geisha Washed offers a similarly appealing profile—an approachable yet high-quality Geisha.

Expect juicy notes of mandarin orange and apricot, complemented by a subtle, distinctly Colombian herbal finish. A honey-like sweetness supports the cup throughout, maintaining excellent balance even as it cools. The texture is silky, with a gentle, lingering sweetness that unfolds slowly.

This cup, delivered across distance and circumstance, carries both the strength of the land and the sincerity of the producer’s work. With each sip, its clean acidity and soft sweetness draw you in—inviting you to savor the lingering finish to the very end.
