<Finca La Reserva>

This coffee is a Geisha variety grown at Finca La Reserva, located in Huila, Colombia. The farm is owned and operated by Marlon Rojas Perez, who runs the farm together with his family.

Located across the municipalities of Pitalito and Palestina, the farm grows rare varieties such as Geisha, Bourbon, Pacamara, and Sidra. These coffees are cultivated through a combination of generations of family experience and Marlon’s own knowledge and expertise in coffee cupping, production, and sales.

Marlon is a third-generation coffee producer. Born into a coffee-producing family whose roots go back to his grandfather’s generation, he once chose a completely different path and became a commercial airline pilot. However, during one of his journeys abroad, he realized that his true potential lay back home, on his family’s coffee farm in Colombia. This realization led him back to the world of coffee.

His progress since then has been remarkable. Just five years after he began learning to cup coffee, Marlon became the Colombian Cup Tasters Champion in 2024. In the same year, he placed 11th in the World Cup Tasters Championship held in Geneva, Switzerland.

“Coffee is not simply something you drink. It is a way of drinking in culture and passion.”
— Marlon Rojas Perez, following the competition.

Roasters around the world who have worked with Marlon consistently praise his passion and dedication to coffee processing.

From traditional methods such as washed processing to experimental approaches including co-fermentation, he continually explores new techniques with every harvest, always seeking to bring out the unique character of each variety and the expression of its terroir as cleanly as possible. His exceptional ability to apply the refined sensory skills he has developed as a competitive cupper directly to the production process gives him a rare advantage as a coffee producer, and supports the precision of his ongoing pursuit of quality.

When we first encountered this coffee during a sourcing cupping, we were impressed by its delicate flavors, reminiscent of soft florals and citrus. To preserve and highlight these characteristics, we chose to roast it lightly.

To bring clarity to the cup, we applied sufficient heat from the beginning of the roast, then gradually reduced the temperature toward the latter part of the roast, aiming for a short overall roast time. Around first crack, the temperature tended to rise slightly more than expected, so we carefully adjusted the heat while closely observing the condition of the beans.

When brewed, the coffee offers bright aromas and acidity reminiscent of lemon and florals, with a subtle hint of ginger. As it cools, honey-like sweetness gradually becomes more pronounced, creating an even more harmonious balance between acidity and sweetness.

The bright citrus character is particularly striking, and we also recommend enjoying this coffee over ice, such as as a cold brew, where its sweetness and silky, glossy mouthfeel can be fully appreciated.

Marlon is a passionate producer who continues to challenge himself in competitions and pursue self-improvement, while helping shape the next generation of the coffee industry.

We hope you enjoy Marlon’s Geisha and experience the passion behind his work.
