＜La Roca / La Esperanza＞
Planadas, located in the Tolima region of Colombia, is an area that until the early 2000s was under guerrilla influence and far from a prosperous environment. Reaching the farms is no simple task—you must drive more than four hours on unpaved roads and cross small streams along the way. Yet once you set foot on the farm, you can immediately sense its immense potential.
The coffee we are introducing this time is a Geisha variety produced by Jorge, who runs his own farm “La Roca” in Planadas while also handling processing for neighboring producers. He uses cherries from La Esperanza, a high-altitude farm in Planadas, and through his processing expertise, brings out the full potential of the Geisha variety.
Jorge is the third-generation son of a family of coffee growers in Planadas, and around four to five years ago, he began challenging himself with specialty-grade production. His efforts paid off—he placed 3rd in his first Cup of Excellence entry in 2022, followed by 24th in 2023—further fueling his passion for coffee production. That passion has already found its way to the next generation as well: his son placed 2nd in the Kids Cup Tasters competition. A truly promising producer family.
This coffee offers layers of fruit—apples, mandarins, stone fruits—and a solid honey-like sweetness that enhances each flavor. The mouthfeel is rounded, and though it’s a light roast, the cup has structure and presence that gently spreads across the palate. It’s smooth and juicy—if I had to put it into words. The fruitiness detected in the aroma and flavor lingers long into the finish, and to be honest, it tastes so good you may wonder if the price is even correct.
