Reaching the farms is a challenge in itself—requiring over four hours on unpaved roads and crossing small rivers along the way. However, once you arrive, the remarkable potential of this land becomes immediately clear.

The coffee we are introducing comes from Jorge, who operates his own farm “La Roca” while also processing cherries for neighboring farmers. For this lot, he used Geisha cherries grown at La Esperanza, a high-altitude farm in Planadas. Through his skilled processing, Jorge brings out the full potential of this exceptional variety.

Jorge is part of a third-generation coffee farming family in Planadas and began focusing on specialty coffee production about 4–5 years ago. His dedication quickly paid off—he placed 3rd in his first Cup of Excellence (COE) entry in 2022, followed by 24th place in 2023. His passion continues to grow, and it is now being passed on to the next generation—his son has already earned 2nd place in a kids’ Cup Tasters competition.

This marks the seventh coffee we have sourced from Jorge. When we counted, even we were surprised! His coffees consistently captivate us with their precision and elegance, and they tend to sell out faster than expected. Perhaps many of you have already become fans of his work without even realizing it.

From the green beans, this coffee already displayed a vibrant fruity aroma. Our goal in roasting was to preserve and highlight that character as much as possible. Due to the high moisture content and dense structure of the beans, we set a slightly higher charge temperature while carefully controlling the heat to avoid scorching—aiming for a clean finish using hot air.

In cupping immediately after roasting, sweet fruit notes reminiscent of mandarin orange and apple spread across the palate, prompting an instant “Wow.” (Freshly roasted coffee often carries a “roasty” character, but this coffee has so many appealing qualities that it hardly feels noticeable.) We recommend waiting at least two weeks after roasting before opening to enjoy an even cleaner and more refined finish.

Expect a complex fruit profile of apple, mandarin, and stone fruits, supported by a rich, honey-like sweetness. Drying can take over a month—often nearly twice as long as a typical washed process.
